Billy Joel – Leave A Tender Moment Alone (1983)

邦題は「夜空のモーメント」。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　歌詞のなかに夜は出て来ませんが、美しい曲調は夜にぴったり。
名手トゥーツ・シールマンスの印象的なハーモニカからはじまる切なくて美しい曲です。

「leave」は中学校では（去る）という意味で習いますが、高校生以上になると（そのままにしておく）という意味で使うことが増えてきます。

タイトルは、「 Leave me alone」（ぼくを放っておいてくれ）というよくある表現の目的語を「me」から「a tender moment」に置き代えたかたちです。

「tender」は（優しい）という意味のほかに、（壊れやすい）とか（微妙な）という意味があります。

せっかく大好きな女の子と一緒にいて、とても良い雰囲気になってきたのに、その重苦しい雰囲気に耐え切れず、大事なところでついおちゃらけてしまう自分に向けて、この「壊れやすい微妙な空気」を頑張ってそのままにしておこう、と歌っています。

こちらはトゥーツ・シールマンスをゲストに招いたライブバージョン。　　　　やさしいおじいちゃんの背中越しに見える若き日のビリー・ジョエルがとてもうれしそうですね。
