80年代に少年だったお父さんなら誰でも知っている曲です。

「空高く！」というタイトルや、清々しい曲調から青空に突き抜けて行くような爽やかな曲だと思っていましたが、改めて歌詞を見るとぜんぜんそういう内容ではありませんでした。

I gave you love

ぼくは君に愛を捧げ

I thought that we had made it to the top

ぼくらは頂上にたどり着いたと思った

I gave you all I had to give

与えるべきものはすべて与えた

You’ve blown it all sky high

きみはそれをすべて空高く吹き飛ばした

By telling me a lie

ぼくに嘘をつくことによって

Without a reason why

理由も告げずに

You’ve blown it all sky high

空高く吹き飛ばした

「過去のある時点ではできる可能性や能力があったが、実際にはそうならなかった」という表現 （could have +過去分詞）に注目です。

We could have touched the sky

ぼくらは空に触れたはずなのに（実際には触れなかった）

Thrown down in a spin

I thought that we had made it to the top
I gave you all I had to give
Why did it have to stop

You’ve blown it all sky high
By telling me a lie
Without a reason why
