B. J. Thomas – Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head（1969）

邦題は「雨にぬれても」。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 巨匠バート・バカラックの作品。ポール・ニューマンとロバート・レッドフォードが出演する映画『明日に向かって撃て！』 の主題歌でした。

降り続ける雨粒を悲しみのメタファーとして用いています。

デパートなどでは外が雨模様になってきたことを館内のスタッフに知らされるための暗号としてBGMに使われているそうです。

どうりで、ずっと屋内で仕事をされているはずの店員さんが、傘用のビニールを用意したり、紙袋に雨用のカバーをかけてくれたりする訳ですね。

こちらはベン・フォールズ・ファイブによるカバーですが、サビ部分の意表を突いたアレンジに、作曲者のバート・バカラックがうしろで大笑いしています。

たしかにアレンジは斬新ではありますが、透き通るようなヴォーカルや、ピアノのアルペジオの美しさ、今日はじめてドラムを叩いたような初々しいフォームからくり出されるゆったりとしたリズム。どれをとっても完璧です。

ピアノの上に大きなカンニングペーパーを置いていますが、出だしの歌詞から間違えていますね。
